Tasmanian Devil InformationThe Tasmanian devil (Sarcophilus harrisii) is a carnivorous marsupial found only in Tasmania. Fossil records indicate that this animal once inhabited vast areas of Australia. The Tasmanian devil has the size of a dog, it is stocky and muscular, and has powerful jaws. It has long whiskers on its face, which helps the devil locate its prey. It also has black fur with white markings on the rump or the chest. This animal is very strong for its size. The Tasmanian devil is 20 to 30 inches long, and weighs 13 to 22 pounds. Males are larger than females. Unfortunately, the Tasmanian devil facial tumour disease has caused a 20-50% decline in population and it's still a serious threat. The Tasmanian Devil is the symbol of the Tasmanian National Parks and Wildlife Service.
